Information you provide

The calculator asks for a ticker, an amount, and a date. These are sent to the Hindsight Returns server to calculate your result, and are recorded in the site's analytics, described below, with an anonymous identifier for your visit. If a calculation fails, the ticker may be kept briefly in an error log for troubleshooting.

If you email Hindsight Returns, your email address and message are used to reply.

Analytics

Hindsight Returns uses PostHog to understand how the site is used. PostHog records information such as the pages you view, clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, the calculator's inputs and results, your approximate location (country and city), and technical details like your browser and device type. PostHog uses your IP address to determine your location and then discards it. PostHog processes this information in the United States on behalf of Hindsight Returns.

PostHog runs without cookies and stores nothing in your browser. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, PostHog is not loaded; each calculation is still recorded, without an identifier for your visit.

Advertising and cookies

Hindsight Returns is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Information is used to operate the calculator, understand how the site is used, keep the site secure, respond to messages, and show the advertising that supports the site. It is not sold. Service providers and processing location

The site relies on third-party providers for hosting (Amazon Web Services), market data (Yahoo Finance), analytics (PostHog), and advertising (Google). These providers may process limited technical information, such as IP address and browser type, as needed to deliver, measure, and secure their services. Ticker lookups are sent to the market data provider from the Hindsight Returns server, without information about you.

Hindsight Returns is based in Canada. Its service providers store and process information in the United States and may do so in other countries. Information held outside Canada is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities.

Safeguards and retention

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used to protect information. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. Emails are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to respond and maintain appropriate records.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and Hindsight Returns does not knowingly collect their personal information.

You may ask about personal information held by Hindsight Returns or request access, correction, or deletion, subject to applicable legal and record-keeping requirements.
